HOPHOUSE socks are knitted cuff down featuring all over colourwork and strong-style heel construction. I used no-nylon Snowdonia sock yarn for the very first sample and wanted to create socks that have colourwork not only on the leg and foot, but also on heels and toes, in hope that it will make them more durable.

GAUGE: two gauge options are given for these socks
Option 1: Standard (fine) fingering weight yarn (400 - 420 meters / 437 - 459 yrds per 100 grams) - 38 sts / 40 rnds in 10 cm / 4 inches in colourwork pattern on main needles in the round after washing and blocking
Option 2: Heavier fingering / sport weight yarn (320 - 340 meters / 350 - 372 yrds per 100 grams) - 32 st / 37 rnds in 10 cm / 4 inches in colourwork pattern on main needles in the round after washing and blocking

SIZES AND FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 1 (2) 3 equivalent to 60 (72) 84 sts, finished foot circumference after washing and blocking approx:
Option 1: 15.5 (19) 22 cm / 6.25 (7.5) 8.75 inches
Option 2: 18.5 (22.5) 26 cm / 7.5 (9) 10.5 inches

YARN:
Option 1: 180 (200) 252 meters / 197 (219) 276 yards of each MC and CC in fine fingering weight. Rust and beige sample: Snowdonia sock from Garthenor Organic, 75% Romney, 25% Hebridean, 50 g - 200 m / 219 yds
Option 2: 170 (221) 255 meters / 186 (242) 279 yards of each MC and CC of heavy fingering weight. Brown and white sample: Drops Nord, 45% Alpaca, 30% Polyamide, 25% Wool, 50 g - 170 m /186 yards

NEEDLES:
Option 1: 2 mm / US 0 circular needles for magic loop (or other size to achieve gauge) for main colourwork and 2.25 / US 1 mm for cast on and ribbing.
Option 2: 2.5 mm / US 1.5 circular needles for magic loop (or other size to achieve gauge) for main colourwork and 2.75 mm / US 2 for cast on and ribbing.
Please note that needle size is just a suggestion. Choose needles that will help you achieve correct gauge. You can adapt this pattern to DPNs.

NOTIONS: tapestry needle, row counter, 2 different markers
